Original oil painting
After a long day at work and staring at computers, one of my favorite ways to wind down is to sit in the swinging chairs under the trees in the yard with my husband and martinis. On one day in particular, while he and I sat in our favorite spot, I stopped and noticed that I was perfectly content and at peace. While I observed this feeling, I noticed how the landscape looked brighter and that it was being reflected in our still full martini glasses. I captured this moment first in a photo, and later I decided I needed to paint it as part of my water study. You can see the arc of the surface of the water, the reflection of the trees and sky in the liquid, and water drops clinging to the top of the glass.
I painted this image using oil paints on a gallery wrapped canvas. The 2" edges are all painted so that the painted image extends beyond the front surface. The layers upon layers of paint adds to the visual depth and rich hues that can't be achieved with watercolor, acrylic, or even photos that will fade over time.
