If you have ever been to the Las Vegas strip in Nevada, or even watched any movies about Las Vegas, you are probably familiar with the iconic Flamingo resort which features a wildlife habitat that includes big, beautiful pink flamingos. During a recent vacation in Vegas, I captured an image of these beautiful birds that inspired this painting.

I painted the image in an impressionist style by applying the oil paint in small, short strokes of different colors side by side on the canvas without blending the colors together. Viewing the painting from a distance reveals the whole image, but up close, it  looks like a patchwork of colors. To make the image a little more interesting, I painted the foreground and background in bright blues, golds and reds instead of the realistic and traditional greens and browns. 

I painted this image using oil paints on a gallery wrapped canvas. The 2" edges are all painted so that the painted image extends beyond the front surface.  The layers upon layers of paint adds to the visual depth and rich hues that can't be achieved with watercolor, acrylic, or even photos that will fade over time.
