The iconic Tower Theater in downtown Bend has been a cultural center for the performing arts and the inspo for this painting. The neon color pop made this painting a unique challenge. I started with a black canvas and layered a blend of phthalo blue and green, then layered off white to create the neon green and blue. The sky is ultramarine blue, so it looks black but reflects a rich blue in direct light. I wanted to maintain an impressionist style which is challenging when the details are so specific like the lettering and the sign and building edges. I like how it turned out. I hope you do too.
